Seminar description
In February 2023, the focus of Part I was placed on the following basic categories:
Body language & Gestures, Pace of speech, Pausing, Audience interaction, and Highlighting techniques
In this seminar we go beyond the basic skills developed last year. However, ‘new’ participants can also take part.
This time we develop further tools and practice in rhetorical techniques. Some of the key topics will be as follows:
• Reducing nervousness - Dealing with the Q&A – practising difficult scenarios
• Dealing with stress – Breathing techniques – before and during presentations
• Management of voice – further insights on vocal competence
• Structuring – content and key messages
• Argumentation - Basing your content on a clear and sound argument
Most importantly, participants will hold their own short presentations and receive feedback on style.
The training follows an interactive approach with skills being practised through multiple short activities, building up to a short research talk.
Preparation: Participants need to prepare a 6-8 minute talk on their research topic before seminar begin.
Teaching methodology
This is an interactive seminar that provides opportunities to hold short presentations and gather focused feedback.
You will discover areas for improvement through constructive feedback from the trainer as well as other participants. We will use small group activities to build your competence in how to communicate your research effectively to an audience.
