Journal Club Workshop - how to read and analyse a scientific paper

Marcy Scholz

21.04.2020 – 24.04.2020

Due to the current situation regarding the Corona Virus Outbreak, we are offering the workshop as an Online Workshop from 21.-24.April. More details will be available by email.

The Workshop:

On April 21st the workshop will be held from 8.30-16.30 by Marcy Scholz, followed by a 30 Minute session by Dr Joana Viola about the upcoming Journal Club Series

  • During the workshop you will read articles and also work in small groups to understand a short paper and to present it to your colleagues
  • As this workshop is very intensive, and demands a good understanding of the English language, a good level of English (reading, speaking, listening) is important for you to get the most out of it
  • After the workshop you will get more detailed information about the organization of the JC series (about 30 min)

The Journal Club Series:

  • The Workshop will be followed by a Series of 6 Journal Club
  • Registration for the Workshop also means to attend ALL Journal Club sessions AND present at least once during the Journal Club Series
  • Journal Clubs will be held in small groups; every time a different group presents a different paper (30-45 min talk + discussion)
  • Each group will choose a senior scientist as a moderator for the particular Journal Club that the group presents. This moderator is responsible for assisting the students in the choice of an adequate paper to be presented, and to moderate the presentation session (hence, needs to be present in that particular JC session)
  • Attendance to Journal Club series is open to all students interested, and only attendance will be accredited as in lecture series (for accrediation it is mandatory to visit ALL 6 Journal Club Sessions)
