25.03.2021 at 00:00

201126a_RespResearch-SafeDate_RZ

A campus-wide virtual event for researchers of all generations.

With keynote lectures, breakout sessions and "meet the speaker" forums on different facets of responsible research conduct:
• (Inter)national standards of research integrity
• Role and responsibility of institutions
• Pre-print publishing and Open Access
• Scientific communication
• Biostatistics
• Open Science
• Conflict of Interest
• Mental Health and Well-being

The graduate programs of the Life Science Campus Großhadern/Martinsried together with the GraduateCenterLMU jointly hosted this event on responsible research conduct. Graduate students, postdocs, senior scientists - all were welcome!

Background:

Researchers are obliged to conform to rules of Good Scientific Practice. While this might seem obvious at first glance, a closer look reveals that these rules are often implicit, and sometimes the border between acceptable and unacceptable practice may remain unclear. To raise awareness about these questions, life science graduate programs on the Campus Großhadern/Martinsried and the GraduateCenterLMU joined forces to organize this campus-wide educational event.

Main questions tackled:

  • What is responsible research?
  • How can I present data accurately and reproducibly?
  • What are conflicts of interest?
  • What about preprint publishing, and how does this change the established publication routines?
  • What do I need to know about open science?
  • Where is the link between mental health, well-being and responsible research?
  • What is an Ombudsperson and why should we discuss responsible conduct of research in the global context?

These – and more – topics were approached for next generation researchers.
